Flower or Pre-Rolls?
If you are new to Medical Cannabis then you may find yourself a little overwhelmed when you first walk into a dispensary. With so many ways to medicate yourself, it’s hard to know where to start. Unless you want to try out each method yourself, education on these methods is the best way to decide which to try. So here are some finer points on Pre-Rolls vs Flower.
Flower, Pre-Rolls, What it all Means
“Flower” is the industry term for the part of the plant that is smoked, also known as Bud. The flower has the most THC in the plant, and the best taste when smoked. A “Pre-Roll” is a marijuana ‘cigarette’ that is also known as a ‘joint,’ that has been manufactured beforehand for your convenience. Pre-Rolls are always made up of flower, although sometimes they can have kief or wax mixed in!
Accessibility
Accessibility is probably the biggest advantage Pre-Rolls have over Flower. They are ready to go when you are! Flower should be broken up before use, which can take a little bit of time to prepare, but since Pre-Rolls are premade, they are perfect for an on the go lifestyle.
Also, you only need one hand when its lit!
If you’re new to medical marijuana not sure how to load a pipe, roll your own, or edibles are too strong, Pre-Rolls are an easy and efficient way to medicate yourself.
Quality
Typically loading a pipe and rolling your own use the the same part of the plant, the flower, but some Pre-rolls have been known to have subpar flower (such as buds considered ‘ugly’ or unsellable), shake(finely ground flower usually found at the bottom of the packaging), and even sugar leaf to make up the contents of the pre-rolls. You can always cut open a Pre-roll to see the contents but of course, you would have to buy it, so it’s important to go to a reputable dispensary that cares about quality.
Preference
In the end, it all comes down to what you like. Maybe you used to like to smoke but its to harsh now so vapes and edibles are what you prefer. Maybe you enjoy the ritual of grinding up and preparing your own pipe or joint or maybe you prefer quick and easy access to your medicine to mesh with your busy lifestyle. Until you try it for yourself though, you won’t actually know!
